Friends of Maple Grove organized a Free Community Concert and Historical Presentation in honor of Women's History Month, on Saturday, March 12, 2016.
Greetings!
We had another wonderful concert at Maple Grove. It was our first concert tribute to Women's History Month. It began with a beautiful Art Exhibit featuring paintings by Pearl Sherman in the lower lobby.
Celeste Chau took care of securing all of the multi-talented performers and the musical program. A volunteer group of 20 singers, musicians and even a poet came. Seven women from Maple Grove were honored during the concert including Victorian Earle Matthews, Helen Serger, Kate Claghorn, Rosina Lhevinne, LaVern Baker, Theresa Merritt and Dr. Ella Jennings MacDonald. Young ladies from the Aquinas Honor Society came to speak about each of the women. Bonnie Dixon opened the event with a wonderful and humorous skit honoring women. The evening offered many musical tributes with all types of musical performances influenced by women. Celeste also created an eight page program for the audience.
The event was helped by many other volunteers as well. Helen Day was there to help with the check in as well as Cheril Alexander and her co director Dino who welcomed guests at the front door. We had eight St. John University students who came. William Porter was also there to help. They all helped with the preparation of light refreshments.
According to Helen's record keeping we had 52 RSVP's for the concert and 80 attendees with all of the friends and family of the students and performers/presenters. That does not include all the volunteers!
Thank you to all for a successful evening. Carl Ballenas President of the Friends of Maple Grove
